Nil Izvorov (1823–1905) was a prominent figure in the Bulgarian National Revival and the struggle for an independent Bulgarian Church. Born as Nikola Dimitrov in Ruse, he later became a monk and served as the chairman of the parish council in Ruse. In 1872, he was ordained as a bishop and was sent to Thessalonica to assist in the construction of the structures of the Bulgarian Exarchate. However, his refusal to return to his diocese led to his conversion to Uniatism, and he became the spiritual head of the Uniate Bulgarians. After a period of service as the Apostolic Administrator of the Uniate Bulgarians in Istanbul, he eventually appealed to the Bulgarian Holy Synod to be re-admitted to the Orthodox Church. Following his retirement, Nil Izvorov settled in Sofia, where he passed away in 1905. His contributions to the Bulgarian National Revival and the struggle for an independent Bulgarian Church left a lasting impact on Bulgarian history and religion.
