Born on a family farm in what was then Albany County and is now Greene County, Adams had an active political and civic career. His public service included roles as Postmaster of Durham, Supervisor of the Town of Durham, Justice of the Peace, and a colonel of the State Militia. In addition, he served as a member of the New York State Assembly, Sheriff of Greene County, and a member of the New York State Senate. Adams was also involved in the military, holding the rank of colonel in the State Militia. Notably, Congressman John Adams was his brother. Adams married twice and had four children. His contributions to New York state politics and his various civic roles left a lasting impact on the community.
