Anne Askew, also known by her married name Anne Kyme, was a renowned English writer, poet, and Protestant preacher, noted for her defiance during the reign of Henry VIII. Anne also had two half-brothers, Christopher and Thomas, from her father's second marriage to Elizabeth Hutton. Reubin Askew was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, as the youngest of six children to Leon G. Askew and Alberta (O'Donovan) Askew. His parents divorced due to his father's drinking problem, and Askew moved with his mother to Pensacola, Florida, in 1937. He honored his mother's maiden name, O'Donovan, as his middle name and supported his family financially from a young age. His mother worked as a waitress and seamstress.

Vincent Jerome Askew, born on February 28, 1966, is a former American professional basketball player known for his versatile playing style in the NBA. Over a nine-year career, Askew played for eight different teams, including the Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors, and Seattle SuperSonics. His most significant contributions came with the SuperSonics, where he was recognized for his defensive skills and unselfish play. Askew also excelled in the Continental Basketball Association, earning MVP honors in 1990 and 1991. Post-retirement, Askew transitioned into coaching, taking positions in both Italy and his hometown of Memphis.
