Rufus Clay Barringer was a distinguished American lawyer, politician, and Confederate brigadier general during the Civil War. Born on December 2, 1821, in North Carolina, Barringer initially opposed secession but chose to support his state. He formed the "Cabarrus Rangers" and fought in key battles like Gettysburg, earning promotions for his bravery. After the war, Barringer, despite his brief imprisonment, resumed his law career and contributed to North Carolina's development, including its railroad system. Born near Concord, North Carolina, in 1806, Daniel Moreau Barringer was the son of Elizabeth Brandon and General Paul Barringer. His family had French Huguenot roots, and he was the older brother of Civil War Brigadier General Rufus Barringer. His uncle, Daniel Laurens Barringer, was also a Congressman from North Carolina. Daniel Barringer's son later gained fame for uncovering the meteoritic origins of the Meteor Crater in Arizona.

Leslie Barringer (1895–1968) was a distinguished English author renowned for his historical and fantasy novels, particularly the Neustrian Cycle. Born in Yorkshire, England, Barringer's career spanned roles as a civil servant and editor for notable organizations like the BBC and Amalgamated Press. His work, especially the Neustrian Cycle, set in an alternate medieval France, gained critical acclaim posthumously, leading to reprints in the 1970s and 1980s. Esteemed fantasy authors such as L. Sprague de Camp and Lin Carter praised his imaginative storytelling, contributing to a revival of interest in his works.
