Daeida Wilcox Beveridge, known as the "Mother of Hollywood," was a pioneering figure in the founding and development of Hollywood, California. In 1888, she donated land and established the town alongside her first husband, Harvey H. Wilcox. Together, they laid the groundwork for Hollywood's civic infrastructure, including the first city hall, library, and police station. Following Harvey's death, Daeida continued her visionary efforts with her second husband, Philo T. Beveridge, creating key institutions such as the Hollywood National Bank and a theatrical playhouse. Her contributions were instrumental in transforming Hollywood into a thriving community, even before the film industry arrived. Daeida was posthumously inducted into the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame in 1995.

Daeida Wilcox Beveridge was born Ida Hartell in Hicksville, Ohio, to farmers Amelia and John Emerson Hartell. She received her early education in Hicksville and later attended public school in Canton, Ohio.

John Lourie Beveridge, born on July 6, 1824, in Greenwich, New York, was a prominent political and military figure, best known for being the 16th Governor of Illinois from 1873 to 1877. He served as a colonel and later brevet brigadier general in the Union Army during the Civil War, commanding the 17th Illinois Cavalry. Beveridge's political career included roles as Cook County Sheriff, Illinois State Senator, and U.S. House Representative. His governorship coincided with the Long Depression and the rise of the Anti-Monopolist Party. He supported the creation of state institutions for the deaf, blind, and mentally ill. Beveridge later served as Assistant U.S. Treasurer at Chicago.

John Lourie Beveridge was the son of Ann (Hoy) and George Beveridge. In 1842, the Beveridge family relocated from New York to DeKalb County, Illinois, which marked the beginning of John's long and distinguished connection with the state of Illinois.
