Robin Francis Cavendish, MBE, was a pioneering British advocate for people with disabilities and a medical aid developer. Born in Middleton, Derbyshire, he contracted polio at 28, becoming one of Britain's longest-lived "responauts," reliant on a mechanical ventilator. Cavendish co-developed the first wheelchair with a built-in respirator, significantly enhancing mobility for polio survivors. His relentless advocacy led to government-funded advancements in assistive technology, including the Possum device, enabling greater independence for disabled individuals. Cavendish's impactful work earned him an MBE in 1974.

Cavendish was a member of the Cavendish family and was married to Diana Blacker. They had a son, Jonathan, and traveled extensively, defying the limitations of his condition.

Sir Mark Simon Cavendish, born on 21 May 1985, is a celebrated retired Manx professional cyclist known for his exceptional sprinting abilities on both road and track. A record-holder with 35 Tour de France stage wins, Cavendish is acclaimed as one of the greatest sprinters in cycling history. His illustrious career includes victories at the 2011 Road World Championships, multiple Grand Tour points classifications, and several UCI Track Cycling World Championships titles. Some of his significant accolades include being appointed MBE in 2011, and KBE in 2024, for his contributions to cycling and charity work.

Cavendish was born in Douglas, Isle of Man, to David, a native of the Isle, and Adele from Yorkshire, England. He developed a passion for cycling early, racing BMX at the National Sports Centre in Douglas. His drive and talent were evident from a young age, with his early mentor, Dot Tilbury, noting his determination and competitive spirit.

His remarkable contributions include precise research on atmospheric air composition, gas properties, and the synthesis of water. Cavendish is renowned for the Cavendish experiment, a groundbreaking method to measure Earth's density and calculate the gravitational constant. Highly active in scientific circles, he served on various committees and was an influential figure in the Royal Society of London.

Born in Nice on 10 October 1731, Henry came from a prominent lineage. His father, Lord Charles Cavendish, was the third son of William Cavendish, 2nd Duke of Devonshire, while his mother, Lady Anne de Grey, was the daughter of Henry Grey, 1st Duke of Kent. Despite his mother's early death, his family was deeply rooted in British aristocracy, influencing his connections and opportunities.

Sir Thomas Cavendish, known as "The Navigator," was a renowned English explorer and privateer from the late 16th century. He gained fame for emulating Sir Francis Drake by raiding Spanish towns and ships in the Pacific during his first successful circumnavigation of the globe, capturing valuable treasures like gold and silk. Notably, he seized the Manila Galleon Santa Ana, which contributed to his wealth and subsequent knighthood by Queen Elizabeth I. Although his second expedition was less fortunate, resulting in his death at sea, Cavendish's daring exploits and navigational prowess earned him a prominent place in maritime history.

Thomas Cavendish was baptized in 1560 in Trimley St Martin, Suffolk. He was the third son of William Cavendish and Mary Wentworth. Upon his father's death in 1572, Cavendish inherited a sizeable estate and was placed under the guardianship of his relative, Thomas Wentworth, 2nd Baron Wentworth. His early life was marked by a lavish lifestyle and connections with influential figures in London society, which set the stage for his later ventures.
