William Crowninshield Endicott (1826–1900) was a prominent American politician and lawyer, serving as Secretary of War under President Grover Cleveland from 1885 to 1889. Known for his influential role in military reform, he chaired the Endicott Board, which modernized U.S. coastal defenses. A Harvard graduate, Endicott's career spanned roles as Salem City Solicitor and Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court judge. Endicott was born in Salem, Massachusetts, to William Putnam Endicott and Mary Crowninshield Endicott. He was a direct descendant of Massachusetts governor John Endecott. His wife, Ellen Peabody, was part of the wealthy Peabody family, known for shipping and philanthropy.

James Gareth Endicott (1898–1993) was a Canadian Christian minister, missionary, and socialist known for his significant roles in both religious and political spheres. He served as a missionary in China, where he became a professor at West China Union University and an advisor to Chiang Kai-shek. Disillusioned with the Kuomintang's corruption, Endicott supported the Chinese Communist Party and became involved in the Chinese Revolution. Returning to Canada, he founded the Canadian Peace Congress and played a key role in the World Peace Council, notably contributing to the Stockholm Peace Appeal. His controversial support for the Chinese Communists and accusations against the U.S. during the Korean War drew significant criticism.

Endicott was born to a Methodist missionary family in Sichuan Province, China, as the third of five children. His father, James Endicott, was a prominent figure in the United Church of Canada, serving as its second Moderator from 1926 to 1928. The family returned to Canada in 1910, where Endicott later pursued his education and developed his career as a minister and missionary.

Timothy Endicott, born on July 9, 1960, is a renowned Canadian legal scholar and philosopher, notably specializing in constitutional law and the intersection of language and law. As the Vinerian Professor of English Law at the University of Oxford and a fellow at All Souls College, Oxford, Endicott has made significant contributions to legal academia. He served as the first dean of the Oxford Faculty of Law from 2007 to 2015. His academic journey includes an A.B. from Harvard University, an MPhil from Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, an LL.B. from the University of Toronto, and a DPhil from Oxford. His published works include "Vagueness in Law" and "Administrative Law."
