He served as the 27th Governor of Nevada from 1999 to 2007 and was known for his moderate Republican stance. Guinn's notable achievements include the creation of the Millennium Scholarship program and implementing the largest tax hike to address Nevada's budget issues. He was also interim president of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, from 1994 to 1995. After his governorship, he joined the board of MGM Resorts International. Guinn passed away on July 22, 2010, from injuries related to a fall.
Guinn was reared in Exeter, California, and married his wife, Dema, in 1956. They had two sons, Jeff and Steve. He is interred at the Exeter District Cemetery in Exeter, California.
Dominick Guinn
Dominick Alexander Guinn, born on April 20, 1975, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, is a renowned American professional boxer known as the "Southern Disaster." Nora Guinn was born Nora Venes in Akiak, Alaska, to Joe and Anna Venes. She married Charlie Guinn in 1939, and they moved to Bethel, Alaska, to raise their ten children while working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. After Charlie's death in 1993, Nora continued to be a prominent community figure until her passing in 2005.
