Ken Hamblin was born on October 22, 1940, to immigrant parents from Barbados. As a family man, he is both a father and grandfather, residing in Colorado with his wife, Sue, as of 2010.

William James Hamblin (1954–2019) was a distinguished professor of history at Brigham Young University (BYU) and a prominent figure in Latter-day Saint apologetics. He made significant contributions to the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies (FARMS) and co-wrote a column on world religions for Deseret News. Hamblin's academic work included a Ph.D. in Middle Eastern History and publications such as "Warfare in the Ancient Near East to 1600 BC." His expertise extended to the Book of Mormon's archaeology, where he played a controversial but influential role.
