Francis Quarles was born in Romford, Essex, into a family with a distinguished history of royal service. His great-grandfather, George Quarles, served as Auditor to King Henry VIII, while his father, James Quarles, held significant roles during Queen Elizabeth's reign. His mother, Joan Dalton, was the heiress of Eldred Dalton of Mores Place. Francis was one of eight children; his elder brother, Sir Robert Quarles, was knighted by James I.

Shelton Eugene Quarles is a prominent American football executive and former linebacker, known for his impactful career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Born on September 11, 1971, Quarles played college football for the Vanderbilt Commodores before joining the NFL, initially signed by the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent. He later became a key player for the Buccaneers, contributing to their first Super Bowl championship in 2002 and holding the record for the longest play in Buccaneers' history with a 98-yard interception return. Post-retirement, Quarles has excelled in football operations, serving as the director of football operations for the Buccaneers.
