The Remington lineage included notable figures like Eliphalet Remington, founder of Remington Arms, and connections to historical figures such as George Washington.

Phil Remington was a renowned American motorsports engineer, celebrated for his pivotal role in automotive racing history. Born on January 22, 1921, in Santa Monica, California, Remington's career spanned several decades, during which he made significant contributions to motorsports engineering. Notably, he served as chief engineer for Lance Reventlow's Scarab sports racing car and later for Carroll Shelby's team, where his engineering prowess was credited for Shelby's racing success. Remington's remarkable career also included working with Holman and Moody, Dan Gurney's All American Racers, and contributing to various racing series like Can-Am, Formula 1, and Indy 500. His legacy was cemented with his posthumous induction into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2019.

Eliphalet Remington (1793–1861) was a pioneering American engineer and the founder of Remington Arms, a company initially named E. Remington & Son and later E. Remington and Sons. He made his mark in the firearms industry by crafting a flintlock rifle at 23, which led to mass production due to its popularity. His leadership saw the company's expansion into sporting goods, including bicycles. Remington's contributions to the arms industry left a lasting legacy, with his company operating until 2020.

Born in Suffield, Connecticut, Eliphalet Remington II was the second of four surviving children and the only son of Elizabeth Kilbourn and Eliphalet Remington. His family traces its roots to Yorkshire, England. Remington's cousin was the renowned western artist Frederic Remington.

William Walter Remington (1917–1954) was an American economist who held various significant roles in the U.S. government, including positions with the Tennessee Valley Authority, War Production Board, and the President's Council of Economic Advisers. His career, however, was marred by accusations of Communist espionage, primarily from Elizabeth Bentley. Despite his accomplishments, these allegations led to two perjury convictions, the second of which resulted in a three-year prison sentence. Remington's life ended tragically when he was murdered by fellow inmates in Lewisburg prison in 1954.

Born in New York City, Remington was raised in Ridgewood, New Jersey, by Lillian Maude Sutherland and Frederick C. Remington. His father worked for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., and his mother was an art teacher. Coming from a wealthy branch of the Remington family, his upbringing was demanding, shaping his unconventional personality and early interest in radical leftist politics.
