Ras Woldemichael Solomon, a prominent 19th-century figure, was the Ras of Hamasien and played a pivotal role in Abyssinian military history. Known for his leadership in the Battle of Gundet against Egyptian forces, Woldemichael's strategic command helped secure a significant victory for Emperor Yohannes IV's forces. Despite his initial allegiance to the Emperor, Woldemichael eventually deflected to the Egyptians due to political rivalries, leading to his imprisonment. Woldemichael was born into the House of Hazega, a traditional ruling family of Mereb Melash. He was the eldest son of Abeto Solomon Zerai and Woizero Eleni. His mother, Embet Ilen, served as the governor of Hamsen, underscoring the family's prominent status. Woldemichael married Woizero Altash, connecting him to the influential Dejazmach Whade Woldekidan's lineage, further cementing his status within the noble circles of the time.

Luna Solomon, an Eritrean sport-shooter born in 1996, gained global recognition by qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Games as part of the International Olympic Committee Refugee Olympic Team.
