Ezra Stiles (1727–1795) was a distinguished American educator, theologian, and author, renowned for his tenure as the seventh president of Yale College from 1778 to 1795. Stiles played a pivotal role in American academia, being one of the founders of Brown University. He was also a Congregationalist minister and a member of the American Philosophical Society. His contributions to education and theology, along with his ardent support for the Patriot cause, earned him honorary membership in the Society of the Cincinnati of Connecticut.

Ezra Stiles was born in North Haven, Connecticut, to Rev. Isaac Stiles and Kezia Taylor Stiles. His maternal grandfather, Edward Taylor, emigrated from Leicestershire, England, to Colonial America in 1668. Tragically, Kezia Taylor Stiles passed away shortly after his birth.
