Crystal Waters was born in Deptford Township, New Jersey to jazz musician Junior Waters and his wife Betty. Her great-aunt, Ethel Waters, was a pioneering black American vocalist in Hollywood musicals. The family eventually moved to Washington, D.C., where Waters developed her artistic talents from a young age, earning recognition for her poetry and later pursuing a career in music.

Ethel Waters (1896–1977) was a pioneering African American singer and actress known for her exceptional contributions to jazz, swing, and pop music. Andrew David Waters, born December 30, 1998, is an accomplished American professional baseball outfielder renowned for his tenure with the Kansas City Royals in Major League Baseball (MLB). He made his MLB debut in 2022 after a successful amateur career, highlighted by his recognition as the Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year. Drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 2017, Waters quickly advanced through the minor leagues, earning accolades such as the Southern League Most Valuable Player. Drew Waters has a brother, Zach Waters, who also pursued baseball at the collegiate level, playing for East Tennessee State and the University of Georgia. Zach is currently the Assistant Coach for the varsity baseball team at Etowah High School, where Drew also attended.
