Record Source: the Will of his grandfather Joseph BOOTH was probated. In it he and his brother Frank were bequeathed two cottages adjoining the Royal Oak Inn in Front Street, Byers Green to be held in Trust for them, as well as the rents from them which accrued in the meantime, to be shared equally between them when they both attained the age of 21. He also left a close of grass land of 4 acres, comprising 3 allotments with a farmhouse, stable, blacksmith's shop, 7 cottages with gardens and conveniences at Etherley Moor; also 6 cottages in Front Street, Byers Green opposite the Wesleyan Chapel for his Trustees to sell, the proceeds to be used to pay off his mortgage debts at Etherley Moor and a loan of £100 which he had taken out. The residue of the proceeds was to be shared equally between his daughter Mary ROBINSON, Ann BOOTH the widow of his son Thomas, Robert BOOTH the son of his eldest daughter Elizabeth, and the surviving children of his late son John on their attaining the age of 21 or marrying. After making several other bequests of property and effects, the remainder of his real and personal estate, including money at the Bank, and securities for money were to be shared equally between the same beneficiaries, subject to the payment of any rents accruing in respect of the farms carried on by Joseph and his son Joseph William at the time of Joseph's decease.

He was nicknamed "Teapot" as it was said that he often used to stop his bus outside his house and pop in for a cup of tea
