    [3] She was probably named after Caroline, the wife of King George IV, who had acceded to the throne on 29 January 1820 - at the time the King was trying to divorce her in favour of a woman he had secretly married Before Caroline. She was immensely popular and almost one million people signed petitions in her cause.
