Record Source: Thank you for your recent email and comforting thoughts, the wreath from you and your family was with Dad, as was Sybil's & Family.

Winter arrived with a vengeance in Scot land on FridaySaturday past, several inches of snow, more forecast to come and major disruption all round. On Saturday morning I had arranged to meet the Minister with Gordon at Wemyss Gardens t o chat about Dad, his background and Family. I got through, the journey however took twice as long as normal. Over the next two days we got more snow, temperatures below freezing and the consequent tr ansport chaos. The funeral home were more than confident that the funeral would be able to go ahead, I was not so sure.

We were up early on Tuesday and on the road in plenty time to c omplete the journey to Wemyss Gardens where we were to meet the hearse at 10:40. Uncle Tom had left the borders at 08:30 and was there when we arrived. There was a foot of snow in Wemyss Gardens which my car coped with, Liam with Joanna and Melissa had to park and wait at the junction with the main road. We were joined at Dad,s house by Lorna & Kirsty and Alexander Stevenson with his wife Christine. We chatted and reminisced about Dad whilst waiting on the hearse which arrived on time but had to be pushed to get round the corner and up the brae out of Wemyss Gardens. The Jou rney to the cemetery was uneventful thankfully and to the credit of the cemetery staff the preparations were immaculate. Try to imagine the Inveresk cemetery with over a foot of untouch ed whiter that white snow with only headstones visible and a single track path which we followed behind the hearse down to Aunt Marion's grave.

There followed a short gravesi de service, it was bitterly cold and it started snowing a couple of minutes in, the turnout was small, a consequence I think of the weather. The minister talked about dads roots in Yorkshire men tioning Albert, Mary, Jimmy, Loll(lawrence), Derek, Streethouse and Sharlston Pit. He recalled Dads service in the Royal Artillery at home and in Singapore, meeting Marion on Princess Street and their marriage in the congregational church in Musselburgh. He spoke of Dad's love of family and community, becoming an honorary Scotsman and his love of travelholidays to Streethouse then campin g then Butlins and eventually taking his family to meet our family in Michigan. His joy of spending time with Sisters and Brothers in Law and especially his love of his nieces and nephews Ma ry, Cheryl, Tommy, Lisa, Robin and Reed.

It was a nice service, suited to Dad, focusing on what was important to him, Family and now he is at peace reunited with the family he lo st too soon and has missed so much, Raymond & Marion and the rest of his extended family.

Love to you Cheryl and all the Family

Ian, Alena & the Gir ls.
Age: 82
