    Record Source: Findagrave, Elizabeth Susan Kern Patterson 28 Oct 1874, "Duncan Taylor Patterson was born on October 12, 1812, in Bladen County, North Carolina, to Archabal and Mary Taylor Patterson.

    He married Margaret Hollingsworth On April 7, 1842, In North Carolina. Margaret died about five months into their marriage. Margaret's place of burial is unknown, but assumed to be in North Carolina. About four months after her death, on August 27, 1843, Duncan married Elizabeth Susan Kern.

    Duncan joined and enrolled into the 20th Regiment Mississippi Infantry at Kusciusko, Mississippi, on July 1, 1861. This organization was called into the service of the Confederate States eleven days later on July 12, 1861, at Iuka, Mississippi. He enlisted for the duration of the war at the rank of Captain. He was Captain of his own company, Company P, which was attached to Russell's Regiment of the Mississippi Volunteers. Company P later became Co. K. Duncan died at his home in Attala County, Mississippi, on March 6, 1862, of wounds received at the Battle of Fort Donelson. He was buried in the Patterson family cemetery located at Center, Attala County, Mississippi."
