Record Source: at Chester-le-Street Police Court he was "summoned to show cause why he should not be committed to prison in default of the payment of 19s. due for the maintenance of his father, towards whose maintenance he had been ordered to pay 1s. a week. On behalf of the Chester-le-Street Guardians it was stated that he had a wife and four children, and had £2 a week and a free house and coal after all off-takes were deducted. He was committed to prison for 14 days, suspended for a month to enable him to pay.
