Record Source: [KING - from Bruce.ftw] Gen 2 -- probably [1] According to Wayne Perkins' narrative (pp.169-170), t h e 1835voters list for Conception Bay listed "#154 KING , Ed ward, Senior".But which Edward was this? It seems un like ly that he would havebeen the Edward that was the "or igina l" William's brother, sincethat would make him abou t 90+ - years old. So I assume that thevoters list Edwar d was W illiam's _son_ Edward, husband of ElizabethThistle . He wo uld have been in his late 50s then, and might wel lhave bee n the "senior" Edward in Broad Cove. [Later: B ut see [5 ]below, where it is suggested that this Edward i s #165.] [2] Millicent King lists William's son Edward with the dat e s 1776 -5 Nov 1860, and shows his wife as Elizabeth This tl e (1779 - Aug1840) of Blackhead. This Edward and Eliza bet h are buried atBlackhead cemetery, and the graveston e supp lies the information inthe previous line. I take t hese da tes as valid. (Later: the 1999visit to the Black head cem etery confirms that Edward was born about1776. H is age a t death, given on the gravestone, was 84 years.) [3] George Gilbert King, in a letter of 24 Jul 1988, asser t s thatMillicent King's family tree is not correct abou t Ed ward King'sdates. He wrote "Edward's life span was 17 79-18 50 on the tombstone."Then he backed off a bit and wr ote " Maybe Millicent's chart iscorrect, but I don't kno w wher e she got the records." [4] Wayne Perkins' narrative asserts (p.168) that Edward w a sbaptized in the Harbour Grace Anglican church in 1779 . ( Later: Ina 5 Sep 1999 email to the NFLD-ROOTS list , Lorn e Collins & SusanSnelgrove distributed some record s they s aw at PANL, Harbour GraceAnglican parish records , Box 1 . These records included the baptismof Edward Kin g this w ay: "Edward so William & Eliza KING (ofBlackhea d), bap t June 5, 1779". However, in Keith Matthews' "William King" name file, ther e 's anentry "1779 4 May cb ang wmeliz had son edw at bla ck head". That'salmost certainly a baptismal record. Th e da tes differ, but thisprobably isn't important. [5] Wayne's narrative also assumes that this Edward, so n o f the"original" William, also is voter "#165 KING, Edw ar d of William".That would make him about 59 at the tim e o f the voter list, so thatseems ok. But then who is #15 4? [6] In his "Hypothetical Chart ..." Wayne Perkins gives h i s dod as13 Nov 1860. (Later: It also appears that wa y i n his parishrecords #2. And that's also the way it ap pear s in PANLMethodistUnited Church, Blackhead, Box #1.)
