The Late Mrs E. L. Swift.
With the passing of Mrs Elizabeth Louisa Swift at the Collie Hospital on April 25 has been left another gap in the ranks of Collies old residents. Her death which was mourned by a particularly large circle of friends cast quite a gloom over the town. Born at Burra (SA) 52 years ago the late Mrs Swift, who was the wife of Samuel Swift, of Coombe Street, spent the last 30 years of her life in Collie where, by her cheerful and spontaneous efforts to render assistance to neighbors and others who were in ill-health, she had justifiably earned the reverence of a sincere chain of friendship that only death can sever.Although she had been sick for some time prior to her death the deceased lady bore her suffering with remarkable fortitude. Besides a husband she leaves three daughters (a son having pre-deceased her 20 years ago) and one grandson to mourn her passing.
The funeral took place the day following her death when the remains were interred in the Congregational portion of the Collie cemetery, the burial rites being read by Rev R. A. Pretty. A large number of friends and relatives were present at the graveside. The pallbearers were Messrs F. Nisbett, F. Hann, B. Dixon, J. Griffiths, W. Morgan and B. Saunders.
