He was 72 and a native of Chipola. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Visiting was at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Clinton, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Visiting at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until religious services at 10 a.m. Saturday, conducted by Dr. Fred Malone. Interment in Masonic Cemetery. Survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy H. Covington, Clinton; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Don and Pauline Allen Covington, Clinton, Lynn Covington, Freeport, Fla., and Eddy and Rhonda Broussard Covington, Clinton; a sister, Becky Cunningham, Clinton; mother-in-law, Mary M. Hunt, Clinton; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Preceded in death by a son, Robert W. Covington; his parents, Thurston and Lena Byrd Covington; and a sister, Lurlyne Merritt. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society.
