Record Source: he was living at Stapleton, and he and another man were sued at Darlington County Court by a Mr. SMALES for £2 for damage allegedly caused to a wheelbarrow, hay etc. of his, which they had taken out of a shed which both parties claimed the use of - it was stated that the plaintiff, before he placed his goods in the shed, had removed a wheelbarrow of the defendants. The defendants won the case, and were awarded costs.

Record Source: at Darlington County Police Court George GOUNDRY, a Blacksmith, of Cleasby, was fined a total of £22 for assaulting two lady cyclists, also for wilful damage, and being drunk - "The two ladies, in company with a Mr. BLAND, were returning to Darlington when the defendant put his horse in the road and prevented their getting along. They dismounted, but the defendant still kept up his annoyance, and threatened to strike BLAND with his riding whip. After BLAND had gone for assistance, the defendant continued to pass and repass the ladies in order to prevent their getting away. Another cyclist, named HAYMAN, interfered, and defendant turned his horse round and knocked him off his machine. One of the machines was damaged"

He was asleep on his horse when he was seen by the constable, who walked a short way with him. Defendant roused up, and getting off seriously assaulted the constable, who apprehended him"
