Record Source: at Chesterfield Athletic Sports, before 6,000 spectators, he won the Mile Safety Bicycle Race for members of Chesterfield Cycling Club, by a distance of 60 yards. The event was marred by two bicycle spills, and an accident to the starter, who had the misfortune to blow the palm clean out of his hand. A doctor attended to the man, who, although suffering great pain, was enabled to see the final stages of the sports.

After alternately making the pace for each other, they reached Nottingham together in 2 hours 30 mins, which was a very good time considering the greasy state of the roads. On the return journey GOUNDRY got two punctures when he ran over a piece of wood. As there was no spare bicycle he had to retire.
