[3] Isaac Bennett, father of Obadiah M. Bennett, was born in Westmoreland county, Pennsylvania, December 1, 1818. He received a practical education in the common schools of his day, after which he learned the trade of cabinetmaker with a Mr. Bartley, at West Fairfield. Shortly after his marriage he opened a shop of his own and continued the business of manufacturing furniture. Later he was engaged in the undertaking business with John Kirker, and aftenwards succeeded to the same. He was an active and honorable citizen of the community, keen and alert in furthering the interests of the same, held membership in the Presbyterian church, and was a Republican in politics. He married, April 29, 1845, Margaret Brown, born December 27, 1820, daughter of William and Mary (Huston) Brown, residents of St. Clair township, Mr. Brown having built a stone house on the Ligonier pike, one mile from New Florence, in 1837. Mr. and Mrs. Brown were the parents of children: Robert, born March 6, 1817; Archibald H, December 7, 1818; Margaret, December 27, 1820, wife of Isaac Bennett; Eliza, April 5, 1822; Nancy, November 27, 1826; William, March 7, 1828; John, October 12, 1830; and George, December 28, 1832. The issue of the marriage of Isaac and Margaret (Brown) Bennett was: Obadiah M., born April 5, 1851; William B., February 16, 1855, married, August 20, 1884, Alice L. Leinard, issue: Carrie, Essie and Don; Mary E., February 21, 1858, wife of Wallace Love; Nancy E., December 29, 1863, wife of John P. Findley, issue: Bennett and Wallace, Isaac Bennett (father) died September 13, 1899. His wife, Margaret, resides in Johnstown (1906).
