    Record Source: Jacob GOUNDRY, a Collier, whose brother John had been transported about a year earlier for a robbery at Maryport, was committed from the Public Office at Whitehaven to the House of Correction to await trial at the ensuing Sessions, on a charge of picking the pocket of a seafaring man in a public house in the town of a pocket book containing, amongst other articles, a Belfast Bank Note for one guinea. On 7 October GOUNDRY and two other prisoners escaped from the prison by cutting away the floor above the dungeon, and making an aperture under the foundation of the prison wall into an adjoining field.
