Record Source: It is the only one of his belongings definitely known to have survived. It has a bookplate with "John BOOTH, his book, Byers Green, 1879". As it is a printed bookplate he presumably had other similar ones and owned a collection of books. According to J.H.S. GOUNDRY a Bowie knife and sheath which is still held by the family was used by John BOOTH in the Crimean War (1853-1856), but although the knife is of the right period, John would have been too young to have used it in the War, and was possibly given it by someone who did fight there.
