Record Source: at Exeter Juvenile Court five boys aged between seven and ten were charged with stealing two tins of cigarettes valued at 5s. from a car in Bedford Circus and 1p. from "a collection box in St. Mary Major's Church . . . . the money of the Rev. J.A. GOUNDRY". The two older boys were ordered to be sent to an industrial school for two years and the others were directed to be birched.
