Record Source: an inquest at the "Shoulder of Mutton Inn", Bolam, heard that he had gone into a field intending to burn some whins (gorse bushes) - "he was missed at home, and upon the servant boy going in search of him, deceased was found lying dead by the side of a footpath on the way to his house. Dr. KENNEDY, who examined the body, found a bruise across the forehead which might have been caused through falling down, and the left leg was scxorched by fire. The doctor thought deceased had died in a fit, which probably was brought on by the fumes from the whins. A verdict in accordance with the medical testimony was returned"
