Record Source: "Joseph GOUNDRY, Pitman (married), of Ferryhill, was arrested by P.C. WAKE and charged with criminally assaulting Ann RIVERS, daughter of Mr. John RIVERS, "Half Moon Inn", Low Spennymoor. He appeared in Court three days later and was remanded to Durham till 1st February"

Record Source: at Durham County Police Court Joseph GOUNDRY was charged with stealing three pieces of wood, valued at 10d., the property of the Carlton Iron Company, at Ferryhill on the 13th inst. A young woman said that on that day she was in a public-house in Ferryhill, when the defendant came in, carrying with him the piece of wood produced. P.C. SOLEY proved apprehending the prisoner, who admitted taking one of the pieces. GOUNDRY pleaded guilty and was fined £1, including costs.

Record Source: at Durham Police Court the landlord of the "Wheat Sheaf Inn", Ferryhill was fined 5s. plus costs for permitting gambling by means of a game known as "puff and dart" which a man was seen to have offered to play for drink - when this was done, the loser, GOUNDRY, paying for beer.
