Record Source: Martha "Patsy" Moody is the daughter of Thomas Moody and Aly Gilbert, born in Wayne County, Kentucky, in February 1812. At age 19 she married Nathan B. Tuttle (Oct 1831). Martha and Nathan were the parents of 5 daughters and 3 sons.

Nathan B. Tuttle died in December of 1850 in Wayne County, Kentucky. Martha and Nathan B Tuttle's heirs were listed on the estate settlement for Nathan in 1851 - 1854. Martha then married The Rev. Daniel Field James in 1854 or 1855. Mary Ellen James was the only child of this marriage.

It is believed that Martha "Patsy" Moody Tuttle James had been in Missouri for only a few months before she died because she is listed on the 1880 census in Kentucky with her daughter, Mary Ellen James, and grandson William O. James (who was Mary Ellen James' son). Martha and Nathan Tuttle's other children had already moved to Texas or to Missouri or had died, so it was just Martha and Mary Ellen James who were still at their home in Kentucky.

The 5 daughters and 3 sons of Martha Moody and Nathan B. Tuttle are:
Angeletta Tuttle (Yantis) born abt 1833
Jemima Tuttle (Davis) born abt 1835
    Nancy Tuttle (Eads) born 1836
Alice Ann Tuttle born abt 1839
Jane Tuttle (Eads) born abt 1840
James C Miller Tuttle born 1845
    Isaac Tuttle born abt 1848
    Thomas Tuttle born abt 1851

The only child of Martha Moody and Rev. Daniel F. James is:
    Mary Ellen James born 1856

On Martha's headstone, near the bottom, is inscribed this beautiful poem ~

Our mother lies here under the ground
the dearest friend we've ever found
But through the Lord's unbounded love
we'll meet again in realms above.
