Record Source: [KING - from Bruce.ftw] (1) That Matthew is a son of the Edward King & Elizabeth T h istlemarried On 31 Dec 1808 Is A Guess, Based On The Fa C T That The Datesare About Right. [2] This could be the Matthew King who married Marsha (Mar T Ha) Rineson 1 Dec 1842. (Later: GGK supported this als o , by saying thatMatthew's wife's name was Martha. See t w o paragraphs below.)) (3) In a telephone call on 8 Aug 1999, George Gilbert Ki n g referredto a Matthew King who was an uncle of his fath e r Matthew King (1861-1948). He said that, in 1857, thi s un cle lost three daughters (didhe mean children?) i n a mont h to diptheria, and that subsequently hetook in G GK's fath er Matthew, and saw that he got some education. (Recall th at GGK has said that only his father, and Mary Ja ne King (1863 - 1959) in their generation were literate.) He also said that the Matthew King who was his father's un c le wasmarried To A Woman Named Martha. Searching this d at abase, thereappear to be four different Marthas, but on l y one fits theappropriate dates--Martha Rines. Conseque nt ly, I now merge MarthaRines' husband Matthew with the M att hew currently given as GGK'sfather's uncle. (4) He also recalled, in the same phone call, that Matth e w King(1816 - 1883) had the first clock in Broad Cove . I t was made in1825, probably by a New Haven clock comp any . Many years later, anAunt Rhoda walked off with it-- Rhod a was GGK's mother's brother'swife--and it eventuall y wa s destroyed by some children.
