George Gilbert King, in a phone ca l l to BWK on 11Apr 1999, asserted that she died early fr o m tuberculosis, and thathis father Matthew married Agai N , To A Woman Named Mary Butt.George is Mary's (and Matt he w's) son. (2) See note (2) in Mary Jane King's file. [3] He is buried in Broad Cove cemetery. (4) He is listed in McAlpine's 1898 Directory of Broad Co v e South asa "fisherman"; likewise, in the 1904 McAlpine ' s Directory. (5) In a telephone call of 19 Sep 1999, GGK reported tha t S amuelKing was "furious" because his son Matthew (GGK' s fat her) hadmarried Eliza Pike From Carbonear, Because S He Wa S "Coe" (Church Ofengland), Rather Than A Methodist. (6) He is on the 1913 Voter's List for Broad Cove South. (7) In a 31 Oct 1999, GGK said that his mother and fathe r c ould readand write, at a time when most of their conte mpor aries wereilliterate. (8) There's a fisherman listed as "King Matthew" in the 19 3 6 BroadCove directory. That's probably this Matthew.
