He then entered the US Air Force and served until 1949.
He married Marjorie Gathright That Year. They had 56 years together until her death in 2005.
During this time he worked for Smith Motor Sales for 41 years.
He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing.
Melvin attended St. Mary's University and taught auto repair at St. Philips College.
He served as a Deputy Constable and worked evenings at St. John's United Methodist Church.
He was a Past Master of the Albert Pike Masonic Lodge of the Scottish Rite Temple and was a member of the Alzafar Shrine.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Marjorie Gathright Campbell; and his grandson, Little David.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda St. John & husband , David; son, Bill Campbell; grandchildren, Michelle St. John, Lynn Sorensen, Rachel Campbell; great-grandchildren, Ryan Campbell, Jacob Sorensen, Jason Michael Tate, Raquel Campbell;brother, Don Campbell and wife, Janet; sister, Lura Schwartz; and numerous nieces & nephews.
SERVICES
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2014 from 6:00pm-9:00pm at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 10:00am at St. John's United Methodist Church, 2002 Bandera Rd., San Antonio,TX 78228. Entombment will follow at the Sunset Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. John's United Methodist Church or the Albert Pike Masonic Lodge. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.sunsetnwfuneralhome.com
