Record Source: following John's death, she stayed at Daddry Shield. She got a black Spaniel puppy which she doted on, but found impossible to train, consequently it became wilful, destructive and at times aggressive. However, whatever the weather, she took it out for walks several times a day. She was a good, instinctive cook although the presentation and appearance of her food did not live up to its taste. She also enjoyed embroidery, reading and nature. She still attended the local Chapel, although towards the end of her life she seemed to lose her faith. She enjoyed very good health for most of her life. In her 60's she developed angina. She put on a lot of weight around her middle, probably the result of living alone, and not having anyone to share her cooking with. She suffered a minor stroke in her mid 80's. After a more serious stroke in 1999 she was in Ryhope Hospital, Co. Durham for a few months. It left her with mobility problems and unable to look after herself.
