Record Source: at Houghton-le-Spring Police Court, Charles McVAY was charged with committing an assault upon Nicholas GOUNDRY - "The complainant stated that on the night in question he was in a public-house in Houghton-le-Spring, when the defendant entered with some other men, who became extremely violent. The complainant, who was assisting the landlord in waiting, requested the defendant and his companions to keep quiet. This appeared to give them offence, and on the complainant going outside they attacked him in a most disgraceful manner striking him on the head with a life preserver. The chairman stated that it was a most disgraceful case, and they would send the defendant to prison without the option of a fine. He was accordingly sent to the House of Correction for two months, with hard labour"

Record Source: at the fourth Houghton-le-Spring Floral Society annual exhibition Nicholas GOUNDRY won 1st prizes for a Hand Bouquet, and Kidney Beans; and 3rd prizes for Cut Flowers - Dark French Marigolds, Show Pansies, and Roses; Plants - Balsams; Vegetables - Cucumbers and Spring Onions.

Record Source: "the Waggon-riders, Platelayers etc., employed on the railway between Silksworth and Hetton held a successful supper and social at Mr John DAVISON's Colliery Inn, Silksworth. Mr William DAVISON occupied the chair, being supported in the vice-chair by Mr Nichol GOUNDRY. The Chairman said it gave him very great pleasure to submit to them "Success to the Hetton Coal Co." He had been informed that 1900 had been a record year for the company. Songs, etc., were rendered by Messrs . . . ., J. GOUNDRY, . . . N. GOUNDRY, . . . ."
