Record Source: no reason was found at an inquest on Peter John GOUNDRY, of Church Lane, North Rauceby as to why a safe which he was helping to move should have fallen on him. A verdict of death by misadventure was recorded. It was said that he was fatally injured when the 19 cwt. safe fell on to him from a trolley on which it was being moved, causing severe internal injuries. He had not taken part in the loading of the trolley and was only called to help when the four men moving the safe found they needed assistance. The safe was being transferred from the office of the Clerk of the Sleaford Urban District Council at Jermyn Street to the Council's new premises at Westgate. He was taken to Lincoln County Hospital and died there at about five o'clock on Saturday morning. His wife travelled with him in the ambulance - they were married in September, 1954. The Coroner said "For some reason which is not by any means clear, and has not been explained, the safe suddenly shifted and fell over on to the offside of the trolley, crushing the deceased beneath it. There is no particular reason why the move occurred at this particular moment, or at all. They were moving along without any particular trouble. I don't see how we can explain it"
