Record Source: His obituary said that he was "deprived of a mother's care in early childhood". 1841 - he was a male servant, living in a house at West Horden with 4 other servants. The only other dwelling in West Horden was occupied by farmer WILLIAM BLACKBURN and his family, and the servants were possibly employed at the farm. RALPH was later to marry WILLIAM BLACKBURN's wife DOROTHY, who was his aunt, and 11 years older than him. May 1850 - RALPH and his brother sailed from Liverpool on the "John McKenzie", landing in New York on 15 July, and after a long journey by steamer to Albany, then rail to Buffalo, steamboat to Chicago, then La Salle, they arrived in Griggsville, ILL on 01 Oct 1851. 1852 - settled on a farm near the river at Griggsville, where he stayed until 1862. 1861 - was married bigamously to MARY E. LANGLEY. 1862 - moved to a farm of 240 acres in Ohio Precinct, Falls City, Richardson County, Nebraska, where he had a herd of Durham Short-horns. 1870-80 - was living in Nebraska, USA, with MARY E. LANGLY and daughter LIZZIE A. ANDERSON. 1886 - after suffering from arthritis, he retired from farming and moved to live in the mountains of Wyoming, where he hunted big game. His brother ROBERT spent several winter seasons there with him. Oct 1889 - he moved back to live with his family in Griggsville. 1900 - living in Illinois and described as a land owner. Had seven children, none of whom outlived their father. All of his siblings seem to have ended up in Illinois: WILLIAM (arrival by 1860), ROBERT ANTHONY (arrival 1850) , JANE BUSBY(arrival 1852) and JOHN MEGGESON (arrival 1845).
