Married Myrtle Anna Abney on September 17, 1970 in Evanston, Wyoming. He was a ham radio operator since age 13, and built his own radio from spare parts as a child. In 1961 he was responsible for installing necessary equipment and initiated the first west coast broadcast of FM stereo radio. His call sign was W6NZX.Survived by wife, Anna; children, Samuel (Rose Marie) Yardley, San Jose, California; Robert (Andrea) Findlay, Jr., Salt Lake City; Victoria (Richard) Berry, Taylorsville; Connie (Ron) Dunyon, West Valley City; Delores (Mike) Niccolai, Pittsburg, CA; Lori (Peter) Nakaguchi, Fresno, CA; Patricia Yardley, Vista, CA; 17 grandchildren; mother; sisters, Beverly Patton and Beth Sellers. Preceded in death by son, James L. Yardley, grandson, Richard Berry, Jr.Funeral services will be held on January 10, 1997 at 12 noon at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road (1700 West), where friends may call on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and on Friday at the Funeral Home one hour prior to the services. Interment: Valley View Memorial Park.Published in the Deseret News on January 8, 1997.
