Record Source: A Thomas Combes was employed in 1536 as a commissioner for the suppression of monasteries in Hunts, Derby and probably Cheshire. He was perhaps the Thomas Combe of Ford, father of Ann Combe, and verylikely a brother of John Combe. This would make him an uncle of John Combe, who was engaged in similar work. (E. K. Chambers, William Shakespeare: a study of facts and problems (London, 1930, 1951), 2:129)
