Record Source: at Durham County Police Court, Thomas GOUNDRY, who did not appear, was charged under the Education Act with non-compliance of an order - the prosecution stated that the defendant's child had only made 28 out of a possible 83 attendances, and it was also said that the child was beyond control. The Chairman: What are the parents like ?. Mr. BLENKIN: Not very creditable, I am afraid. They already have two boys in the Industrial School. The Chairman: Two children being brought up by the country already ?. Mr. BLENKIN: Yes. The Chairman: I suppose they want the same done with this one ?. Mr. BLENKIN: Yes. The Chairman: Are they paying anything towards them ?. Mr. BLENKIN: No, they are not paying for either". The Chairman: No, that is it. It is a public scandal. Mr. BLENKIN said that he asked for an order in this case, it was granted, with costs. (This case was probably about their son George, who would be aged 8½ - his two elder brothers were the ones in the Industrial School).
