Record Source: Freemason note, One of the oldest secular social and charitable organisations in the world, modern Freemasonry’s roots lie in the traditions of the medieval stonemasons who built our castles and cathedrals. For Freemasons, there are four important values that help define their path through life: Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Charity. In today’s world filled with uncertainty, these principles ring as true now as they have at any point in the organisation’s history.Membership is open to men over 18 from all backgrounds and the organisation’s aim is to empower members to be the best they can be – it’s about building character, supporting members as individuals and helping them make a positive contribution to society.Freemasonry provides a structure for members to come together under these common goals, enabling people to make new friendships, develop themselves and make valuable contributions to charitable causes. We are one of the largest charitable givers in the country, contributing £51.1m to deserving causes in 2020.

Here is a picture of the list of rectors that hangs in our church and you can see his name on it. The church has a few stones that date from the 1200s but was largely rebuilt in the 1300s and 1400s. The baptismal font does date from the 1200s however. The church is still used regularly but we are part of a group of 7 parishes formed into a single benefice now, so we only get to hold services in it about once a month. When Mr Sanderson was rector, there were three parishes grouped together so he was rector of Brington, Bythorn and Old Weston. These are villages that are all within a mile or so of one another. We had the lead on our church roof stolen a couple of years ago and have been trying to raise money to cover the repairs ever since. There are only 6 regular attendees and it was a large bill, so you can imagine that we have been baking an awful lot of cakes! The booklet is going to be put on sale inside the church in the hope that when visitors come, they will drop some coins into the collecting box.If you have any information about your great great grandfather that you would like to share with us that would be lovely. I am using the newspaper archive to support the research and I saw the attached which must relate to another of your family, perhaps you were already aware of it?If you would like any other photos of the church or if I can give you any other information do let me know, and thank you again!Kind regardsMarion
