MRS. VIRGINIA B. ODOM
HATTIESBURG, Miss.,
Mrs. Virginia B.Gibbs Odom, 91 died Tuesday night ia a Hattiesburg nursing home after a
long
illness. She was born April 5 1881, a daughter of the late Annie Olivia Weaver Bullard
and John Middleton Clayton Bullard, pioneer family of Newton County. She was educated
in the Newton County schools and taught in the one-room red school house in Newton
County. Her first husband was the late Walter F. Gibbs of Lake. Later in life she married
G. R. Odom of Hattiesburg.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the chapel of Hulett Funeral Home
in Hattiesburg with Dr. John E. Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Highlland Cemetery.
Survivors are four daughters: Mrs. Paul Stanleyl, Jackson; Miss Kitty Gibbs, Baton
Rouge, LA; Mrs. George Dubose; Laurel; and Mrs. Lorene Farris, Runnelstown; 18 grandchildren;
a number of great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. R. W. Wiggins of Meridian;
and a number of stepchildren and stepgrandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Mrs. Virginia Odom dies at 91; services Thursday
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. at Hulett Funeral Home chaped for Mrs. Virginia Gibbs
Odom, 91 of 105 Miller St. who died Tuesday night at Hattiesburg Convalescent Center.
Dr. John E. Barnes, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Mrs. Odom was born April 5, 1884, in Newton County, daughter of the late Annie
Olivia Weaver Bullard and John Middleton Clayton Bullard, early residents of the county.
She was educated in the Newton County Schools and later taught there in a one room
red schoolhouse.
She was married To The Late Walter F. Gibbs of Lake, Miss., and they were the parents
of six children, two of whom are deceased. She later was married To The Late G. R.
Odom of Hattiesburg.
Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Paul Stanley of Jackson, Miss Kitty Gibbs of
Baton Rough, Mrs. George DuBose of Laurel and Mrs. Lorene Farris of Runnelstown:
18 grandchildren, a number of great grand children, two step sons, Jessie Gibbs of
Lake, and Frank Gibbs of Oakland Calif, two step daughters, Mrs. Edgar Weaver of
Lake and Mrs. Minnie Ola Jones of Laurel, and a sister, Mrs. R. W. Wiggins of Meridian.
