Chima Kingsley Ugwu, born on 19 July 1973 in Enugu, is a Nigerian shot putter and occasional discus throw competitor. He represented Nigeria in the 1996, 2000, and 2004 Summer Olympics, as well as the World Championships in 1993, 1997, and 2003. Ugwu's athletic journey led him to the United States in 1994, where he clinched the 1995 NJCAA outdoor shot put title while studying at Central Arizona College. Despite his lack of experience, he was recruited to play defensive tackle for the Arizona Wildcats football team and secured Pacific-10 Conference titles in both shot put and discus throw. His personal best throw of 20.26 meters, achieved in July 2000 in Lagos, stood as the Nigerian record and placed him fifth among South Africans Janus Robberts, Burger Lambrechts, and Karel Potgieter. Beyond his athletic pursuits, Ugwu faced legal issues in 2017 related to attempting to ship firearms to Nigeria, although the charges were dismissed in 2015. Notably, his son, Kingsley, is involved in football at Kansas State.
