Dutton Stiles Peterson (December 10, 1894 – October 20, 1964) was an influential American Methodist minister and politician hailing from New York. Born in Costello, Pennsylvania, Peterson's father, Chris Peterson, was an immigrant from Holla, Telemark, Norway. After moving to Steuben County, New York in 1911, Peterson enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1917 and fought in World War I in France. Following the war, he pursued his education, graduating from various institutions and becoming a Methodist minister. He served as the pastor of the Methodist Church in Odessa, New York for over two decades. Peterson's political career as a Republican included multiple terms in the New York State Assembly and the New York State Senate, spanning from 1937 until his passing in 1964. In 1922, he married Martha Melintha Robinson, and together they raised six children. Peterson's legacy lives on, and he remains interred at the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Odessa, New York.
