Mar Eliya Abuna of Alqosh (1862–1955) was a prominent figure in the Assyrian Church of the East and Chaldean Catholic Church. Born as Gewargis d'Beth Abuna, he received his education at the Chaldean Catholic seminary in Mosul and was ordained a priest in the Chaldean Catholic Church. Throughout his career, he served in various capacities, including as Metropolitan of Alqosh and the Diocese of Taimar. Mar Eliya was involved in negotiations during the Assyrian genocide and played a significant role in the burial of the Patriarch Mar Shimun XIX.In 1924, he returned to the Chaldean Catholic Church and was appointed Patriarchal Vicar for the diocese of Aqra. He spent the following three decades in Alqosh and other areas, eventually passing away in 1955. Mar Eliya was also a prolific author, having written works on the history of Eastern Patriarchs and an astronomical treatise, although most of his writings remained unpublished during his lifetime.Mar Eliya Abuna's contributions to the church and his scholarly works have left a lasting impact on the Assyrian and Chaldean Christian communities.
