Etana First Name Meaning

Etana is a female name of Hebrew origin, meaning "Dedication" and "Strength." In Sumerian mythology, Etana was the thirteenth king of the first dynasty of Kish, known as "the shepherd who ascended to heaven and consolidated all the foreign countries." According to Babylonian legend, Etana's desperate longing for a child led him to assist an eagle, which in turn helped him find the plant of birth and led to the birth of his son, Balih. This tale is recognized in folklorist scholarship as fitting into the Aarne–Thompson–Uther tale type ATU 537, "The Eagle as helper: hero carried on the wings of a helpful eagle." The myth of Etana has been found in various versions and is linked to the history of Sumer and Mesopotamian mythology.
