Born on September 3, 1937, he is the son of the 2nd Baron Geddes and Enid Mary Butler. After completing his education at Rugby School in Warwickshire and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, where he studied history, Geddes went on to pursue further studies at Harvard Business School in 1969.Geddes has had a distinguished career, including serving in the Royal Navy from 1956 to 1958 and later in the Royal Naval Reserve. He has held various managerial positions in P&O Bulk Shipping and P&O Asia (Hong Kong). Additionally, he has been involved in educational institutions, serving as the chair of Trinity College, London, and Chrome Castle Ltd, and as a director of the Trinity College of Music.In 1975, Geddes succeeded to his father's title, Baron Geddes, and has since been an active member of the House of Lords, becoming a deputy speaker in 2002. He has been married twice and has two children from his first marriage. Euan Lucie-Smith (14 December 1889 – 25 April 1915) was a British Army second lieutenant of World War I, notable for being one of the first mixed-heritage infantry officers in a regular British Army regiment and the first killed in the war. Born in Jamaica to a mixed British and Afro-Caribbean heritage, he was the younger son of Catherine and John Barkley Lucie-Smith. He received his education at Berkhamsted School and Eastbourne College in England, and then enrolled in the Jamaica Militia Artillery in 1911. In 1914, he joined the 1st Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment and was sent to France, where he tragically lost his life at the age of 25 during the Second Battle of Ypres. Despite his body never being found, his memory is honored on the Ploegsteert Memorial to the Missing in Belgium, as well as the memorials at Berkhamsted School and Eastbourne College. Lucie-Smith's story gained renewed attention in 2020 when his Memorial Plaque, which revealed his non-white heritage, was purchased and later sold at auction for a record price.
