Geronimo Pratt

Elmer Gerard "Geronimo" Pratt, also known as Geronimo Ji-Jaga, was a highly decorated military veteran and a prominent figure in the Black Panther Party during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Born in Louisiana, Pratt served in Vietnam, receiving multiple awards for his bravery. After moving to Los Angeles, he pursued studies at UCLA and became a key member of the Black Panther Party, rising to the position of Deputy Minister of Defense. Pratt's life took a drastic turn when he was wrongfully convicted for a murder he did not commit and spent 27 years in prison, including eight years in solitary confinement. However, in 1997, his conviction was vacated due to the prosecution's withholding of crucial evidence that could have proven his innocence. Following his release, Pratt dedicated himself to human rights activism until his passing in 2011. Notably, he was also the godfather of the late rapper Tupac Shakur. Despite the injustices he faced, Pratt's unwavering spirit and commitment to justice continue to inspire many.
