Hezekiah Usher (1616 – 14 May 1676) was an English merchant known as the first bookseller in the British Colonies. He emigrated to the Massachusetts Bay Colony and established a bookshop in Cambridge by 1639. Usher was a prominent figure in the mid-17th century and served as a selectman in Boston. He was also involved in publishing, with evidence of his bookselling and publishing roles dating back to 1648. Notably, he is believed to have published the first book in America written for children, John Cotton's Spiritual Milk for Boston Babes (1656). Usher was married three times and had several children. He passed away in 1676 at the age of 59 or 60 and was interred in Boston's King's Chapel Burying Ground. His legacy as a pioneering bookseller and publisher in the colonies continues to be celebrated.

Hezekiah Niles (1777-1839) was an influential American editor and publisher known for his work on the national weekly news magazine Weekly Register, also called Niles' Weekly Register. Born in Pennsylvania, Niles apprenticed with a Philadelphia printer and later moved to Baltimore, where he founded the Baltimore Evening Post and later the Weekly Register. He dedicated his career to covering politics, economics, science, technology, art, and literature, making the Register one of the most widely circulated magazines in the United States. Niles was a pioneer of balanced journalism, presenting the arguments of both sides fairly and objectively. He also foresaw the possibility of the American Civil War and made efforts to promote modernization in the South to avoid conflict with the North. Hezekiah Frith, Sr. (1763 – 1848) was a prominent Bermudan shipowner, privateer, and slave trader during the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
